It is an early evening walk because lupus patients are photosensitive and should not be in the sunlight. Lupus is a disease which causes the body's immune system to attack its own organs. It can affect any organ in the body, including the heart, kidneys, skin, blood, and brain. There is no cure for lupus. We especially feel the effects of lupus here in Hawai`i, because lupus affects people of color DISPROPORTIONATELY. WE ARE ALL AFFECTED! Asians, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, African-Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, and Native Americans...We are such a blended culture, who is not touched?
